What is rheumatic autoimmune disease?

A rheumatic autoimmune disease is defined as a disease characterized by inflammation, soreness and stiffness of muscles, and pain in the joints which affect the musculoskeletal system.  This disease may also be called connective tissue disease.  Connective tissues support and bind together various parts of the body including the skin, cartilage and other tissues in the joints, and surrounding internal organs.
