What is a chronic disease/condition?

As defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a chronic disease/condition lasts 3 months or longer. It does not go away. It is generally incurable and ongoing. Each year, 7 out of 10 deaths in the U.S. are due to chronic diseases. A 2003 article in the New England Journal of Medicine stated that people with chronic conditions receive only 56% of recommended preventive health care services.
