Joe T. Minchew, MD, is associate professor of surgery at the Duke University School of Medicine.

Minchew is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with particular clinical expertise and research interest in the disorders and surgery of the spine.

In addition to providing clinical care at the North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic, a practice within the Duke University Health System, Minchew is a researcher of the basic science of disc degeneration and low back pain. His findings have been published in the Journal of Spinal Disorders, Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, and Spine.

He is a past president of the North Carolina Spine Society and is a fellow of the American Academy Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society, and the American Orthopaedic Association.
