can a toothache cause your ear to hurt

I know someone who ear has been hurting for about 3 days . He is in severe pain. He also has a tooth that has probably decayed . Could the actual problem with the ear stem from the tooth?

Yes. This is called "referred ear pain". Because of the nerve pathway, a dental problem can cause pain to be felt in the ear.
