Most babies start drooling a lot and sticking their hands in their mouths between 2 and 4 months, although on average teeth don't actually break through the surface until 6 to 8 months. The extra drool can be a sign that the salivary glands are getting ready for an expanded diet of solids; also, even though teeth may not come through right away, they may be moving up and causing some discomfort.
